For the February half-term holidays I ventured to the Wahiba Sands area, about a 2 hour drive from my home on the coast. I stayed in the area for two nights, and as it was my first visit here, I wasn’t expecting to find very much. Nevertheless some Sharqiyah sand gecko (Trigonodactylus sharqiyahensis), Dune sand gecko (Stenodactylus doriae), Arabian sand fish (Scincus mitranus), Schmidt’s fringe-toed lizard (Acanthodactylus schmidti) and a couple of Arabian sand boas (Eryx jayakari) kept me entertained enough! These were supplemented with a crazy abundance of Cheesman’s gerbil (Gerbillus cheesmani). I’ll be back!
